О художнике

Пьер Боннар (1867-1947) — французский художник конца XIX и начала XX века, получивший международную известность. Боннар внимательно следил за всеми течениями в искусстве своего времени (от импрессионизма до сюрреализма), но, за исключением группы «Наби», сооснователем которой он являлся, выбрал идти собственным путем. Несмотря на то, что художник находился под сильным влиянием идей Поля Гогена, он разработал собственный уникальный стиль в живописи.

Положение кошек и собак «на равных» рядом с людьми не случайно: Боннар хотел показать, что согласно идиллическому и гармоничному устройству природы у всех существ в ней есть свое уникальное место.
