Художник написал эту картину в мае 1889 года, когда находился в лечебнице для душевнобольных в Сен-Реми. В начале пребывания ему было запрещено выходить на прогулки на природу, поэтому Ван Гог рисовал то, что видел в больничном саду в мае.
Куст сирени. Ирисы. Грустно? Оптимистично? Так прекрасно!
